MARQUÉS DE VARGAS WINE GROUP

Marqués de Vargas represents a family lineage of four generations dedicated, with passion, to the production and marketing of excellent wines from La Rioja. In 1840, Felipe de la Mata, VIII Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines at Hacienda Pradolagar. Especially memorable was the figure of Hilario de la Mata, father of the current Marquis of Vargas, who for years held the presidency of one of the most emblematic wineries of La Rioja. In 1989, Pelayo de la Mata, 11th Marquis of Vargas and Count of San Cristóbal, fulfilled his father's dream by building the winery in the heart of the family estate, located in the heart of La Rioja Alta.
Marqués de Vargas was born with a philosophy inspired by French châteaux, making Reservas and Gran Reservas exclusively with grapes from its own vineyard, located around the winery. These are limited production wines, which combine the typicality of the region with the singularity of a unique terroir. The vineyard is tended as if it were a garden, and the winery is designed to respond to the needs of the vineyard. The wines mature in unbeatable conditions in French oak barrels from the best cooperages. It is here that the great Marqués de Vargas aged wines are made, distinguished with the prestigious qualification of "Singular Vineyard" awarded by the DOCa Rioja. This distinction recognizes the extraordinary characteristics of its plots, its exclusive winemaking process and respect for the traditional manual harvest.
