Uniqueness, personality and differentiation have marked the path of Terras Gauda since its foundation in 1989 in O Rosal. With José María Fonseca Moretón as president, the sustainability of the vineyard and the enhancement of the native varieties Albariño, Caíño Blanco and Loureiro have guided the steps of this winery, which has been a pioneer in the development of several R&D&I projects, most of them in collaboration with the CSIC.
With more than 160 hectares of its own vineyards in the O Rosal valley, this family winery produces noble varieties that give rise to 1.5 million bottles of renowned wines such as Terras Gauda (its flagship), Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra, Abadía de San Campio and La Mar, the first wine made from Caíño Blanco. From Galicia, its wines reach more than 60 international markets, the main destinations being the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway and China.
In these three decades, the Terras Gauda Group has consolidated its position in four of Spain's main wine regions: Rías Baixas, Bierzo (Bodegas Pittacum), Ribera del Duero (Quinta Sardonia) and DOCa Rioja (Compañía de Vinos Heraclio Alfaro).
The authenticity and the unique character of the Mencía variety are the hallmarks of Bodegas Pittacum, located in the Bierzo town of Arganza, a region with a great winemaking tradition. Wines such as Pittacum Barrica, Petit Pittacum, Pittacum Aurea and La Prohibición, made with Garnacha Tintorera from centenary vines, stand out for their unique personality.
At Quinta Sardonia, biodynamics is key to ensuring the sustainability of the vineyard. This winery, located in Sardón de Duero, produces QS, QS2 and Sardón wines, the latter being fresher and fruitier, maintaining a balance between innovation and respect for nature.
For its part, the group has extended its presence to the Eastern Rioja with Heraclio Alfaro, an appellation shared by the winery and its wine. The 110-hectare El Estarijo estate grows varieties such as Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo, which represent the essence of this renowned appellation.
In addition, since 1940, A Rosaleira, the oldest vegetable cannery in Galicia, has been part of the winery group. Its incorporation responds to its origin in O Rosal and its family character, reflecting the values that define the Terras Gauda Group.
