To say Marqués de Vargas is to name a family lineage of four generations passionately dedicated to the production and marketing of excellent wines from La Rioja. It was in 1840 when Felipe de la Mata, VIII Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines at Hacienda Pradolagar. Especially memorable was the figure of Hilario de la Mata, father of the current Marquis de Vargas, who for years held the presidency of one of the most emblematic wineries of La Rioja. In 1989, Pelayo de la Mata, 11th Marquis of Vargas and Count of San Cristóbal, fulfilled his father's dream by building the winery in the middle of the family estate, in the heart of La Rioja Alta. Marqués de Vargas was born with a philosophy inspired by the French Châteaux, making Reservas and Gran Reservas exclusively with grapes from the vineyard located around the winery.
Wines of limited production, with the typicality of the region and the singularity of a unique terroir. The vineyard is pampered like a garden. The winery is designed to serve the vineyard. The wines mature in unbeatable conditions in French oak barrels from the best cooperages. In these barrels are produced the great wines of Marqués de Vargas, which have been distinguished with the prestigious qualification of "Singular Vineyard" by the DOCa Rioja thanks to the extraordinary characteristics of its plots, the differential of its production process, and respect for the traditional process of manual harvesting.
