Vilarnau Barcelona

A small, avant-garde artisanal cava near Barcelona The noble Vilarnau family settled in the 12th century in the privileged lands of the Penedés. The name Vilarnau comes etymologically from Vila Arnau, which means "country house" or Domus of the Arnau family. This estate was located in the lordly demarcation of Subirats Castle, where vineyards were already being cultivated in the 12th century. Albert de Vilarnau, a unique character who gives his name to the brand's most exclusive cava, was a prominent member of the family. In the 14th century, he was one of the patrons of the church of Santa María de Vilarnau. The first Vilarnau-labeled cava was born in 1949, when the owner family began marketing cava made from grapes from the vineyards planted on the "Can Petit i Les Planes de Vilarnau" estate. Since then, Vilarnau has been associated with a cava of noble personality, elaborated under strict quality standards and care in every detail.
In 1982, Vilarnau became part of the González Byass family of wineries. The new winery, located in the heart of the estate, was inaugurated in October 2005. Its design, the work of architect Luis González, stands out for its straight lines and its perfect integration with the Mediterranean environment, using abundant glass to connect with the landscape. Three key elements integrate the design: the water, which borders the building and comes from rainwater; the glass of the windows; and the oak wood of the exterior walls. The interior of the winery, largely designed by renowned artist Antonio Miró, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reinforces the connection between tradition and modernity.
